About Jody

Yoga Instructor, Newburgh Yoga Shala

Student to Teacher Journey

After falling in love with the practice of yoga, Jody became certified to teach in Brooklyn in 2012, and completed a further 300 hours of advanced training in 2021 to become a RYT500. In her 11+ year teaching journey, she has studied with many incredible teachers, and feels it is essential to always remain a student and continue to learn and grow!

Teaching Style & Influences

While earning her MFA in Acting from The American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, Jody was exposed to a variety of movement modalities including Laban, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, and Middendorf Breath Work. She brings this body of knowledge to bear in her teaching, as well as a passion for connection and creative expression, and (hopefully) a good sense of humor. Though her yoga journey began with vinyasa flow, her practice and teaching incorporate various styles including Iyengar and Yin.

Additional Interests

Jody is a word nerd, art lover, and voracious eater. In addition to food, she enjoys consuming books, poetry, puzzles, board games, and all things cultural (theater, exhibits, concerts, movies... you get the idea). She delights in color and pattern, and even fifteen years of living in NYC couldn't make her dress in black. Jody loves to travel, is drawn to bodies of water, and thinks all dogs are the best - but especially her very own sweetest-best-boy, Gus. She became a mom to a human towards the end of 2022 and is definitely still figuring that out, but it is certainly a great "interest."
