Bibi Lorenzetti & Austin DuBois | Newburgh Yoga Shala Owners

ABOUT THE OWNERS

Shala owners Bibi Lorenzetti and Austin DuBois met in 2021 through a mutual friend after they both had expressed interest in opening a yoga studio in downtown Newburgh. Bibi's had over ten years of commitment to the practice and teaching of yoga and Austin had been an on-and-off practitioner for some time and had recently deepened his commitment to it, and had experience as an attorney and business owner.

With Bibi's vision and talent, and Austin's operational know-how, they combined their passion for yoga, people and Newburgh into Newburgh Yoga Shala, and could not be more grateful for the community that joined them on the journey, and continues to grow.

Every detail of the space and its offerings are built to support your personal journey towards a healthy body, a steady mind and thriving spirit. Our teachers are committed to their ever-evolving study of yoga, and bring years of expertise, and hearts full of the joy of service.

Our founders are dedicated to bringing the top yoga and health professionals in the Hudson Valley and beyond, to Newburgh, as a means to create a community rooted in tradition, health and mindfulness. YOGA AT THE SHALA

Our offerings are rooted in the lineage and tradition of ashtanga yoga, or the 8 limbs of yoga, brought to us by Pantajali.

The word 'ashta' means eight, and ' anga' limbs. These eight limbs are: yama (ethical codes), niyama ( personal observances), asana (the practice of postures), pranayama (the practice of breath control), pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), dharana (sustained concentration), dhyana (uninterrupted meditation), samadhi (unity of consciousness). We begin by practicing asana, as a means to establish physical health first. Once the body is healthy, we begin to cleanse the nervous system and progressively more towards rebalancing the more subtle functions of the internal body with the end goal to steady the mind.

The practice of yoga, as we understand and teach it, is designed to repair, rejuvenate, and strengthen the body, mind and nervous system. The practice of vinyasa is made up of a series of postures threaded together in a specific order and linked into a fluid movement with controlled breath. We believe that transformation and healing happen when we repeatedly show up to the practice. Repetition brings good health and revitalization to the body as a whole at all levels of practice.

“To learn how to achieve concentration the body must first be purified and then mental strength developed. The method for purifying and strengthening the body is called āsana” from” From ‘Yoga Mala’.
