About Sofia

Yoga Instructor, Newburgh Yoga Shala

Student to Teacher Journey

I sought out yoga at a time when I felt profoundly disconnected from myself, and it eventually became a part of my daily discipline. The inner-connectedness that I experienced from the physical practice ignited my interest to dive deeper into the fundamental aspects of yoga and share it with others.

Teaching Style & Influences

In addition to the internal connection, I can attest to the unifying and community-strengthening nature of yoga, having taught a broad range of ages and abilities in various settings (studios, homes, children's organizations, and a women's prison). In addition to teaching yoga, I am a full-time social worker. Each practice informs the other; I believe yoga philosophy and advocating for a more peaceful, content, and equitable world coincide.

I am repeatedly humbled and awestruck by this discipline. I am endlessly grateful that I can connect with other people by sharing what I have learned throughout my practice and various trainings (200-hour vinyasa, 100-hour hot, Trauma-informed, Yin, and more). I appreciate all who have mentored, inspired, and informed my current practice—and continue to do so! I strive to support each student's individual experience, steering the focus from postural perfection toward continued self-exploration through thoughtful, playful, breath-oriented classes for all levels.
