What does yoga mean to me?

Yoga has been a great companion to me since the challenge of graduate school. Through my practice at the Shala, I've been able to strengthen the connection between my mind, spirit, and body. Most importantly, it allows me to rest for at least one moment every day.

What drew you to the Shala and why did you stick around?

As a newcomer to the Hudson Valley, finding a yoga studio was essential. After testing out a few in the area, the Shala quickly rose to the top due to the variety of classes and the quality of teachers.

What's one piece of advice you'd give someone new to yoga?

Just show up without any expectations. The beauty of the practice is in the unexpected. Even if you only do Surya Namaskar A for an hour every day, it will be different each time, and that is amazing.

What's a fun random fact about you (not necessarily yoga-related)?

When I'm not at the Shala, I'm an economics professor at West Point or hiking with my dachshund Rollo. It turns out that there are many lessons from yoga that can be applied to both teaching economics and training dogs!
