Is this program Yoga Alliance certified?

We are a Yoga Alliance certified school, however this program does not adhere to their training structure, we wanted to go deeper and make less ‘teaching practice’ centered. Certified teachers will receive a Newburgh Yoga Shala Advanced Certificate. You may be able to add the hours to your YA profile after the completion of the training.

Who is this training for?

Anyone seeking to deepen their knowledge and understanding of yoga, and take their practice to the next level. Already certified teachers will walk away with the ability to apply all learned in the training to their teaching practice, taking it to a more advanced level.

All welcome: teachers & students. To receive an advanced teaching certificate, participants must have completed a 200hr training. This training is not aimed at training participants how to teach.

How much time can I expect to dedicate outside of weekends?

  • We require all participants to practice regularly. Ideally with us, in-person or livestream.

  • You can expect to have reading material to read along with the course material.

  • Your personal research project is at the core of this training. You can expect to spend a lot of your personal time studying to investigate and create this research.

  • You will be required to do 5 in class privates (only for those attending the full training).

  • Three 1-on-1 mentorship sessions/one per module (only for those attending the full training)

What if I have to miss a weekend session?

You are allowed to miss up to 1 weekend per module, as long as you watch recordings of those sessions for attendance credit.

Will I have one on one time with teachers?

Each trainee gets one 30 minute 1-on-1 session per module with one of our lead teachers. These are to be used to address questions around your personal project.

What are some things I can do to prepare for the training program?

  • Practice Regularly

  • All attendees are required to be familiar with the foundational asanas of an open level vinyasa.

  • Do your research: There are a lot of Yoga teacher trainings out there, so we suggest  you take the time to research your options. We are a traditional, lineage based studio, our training reflects that. We encourage you to try our classes before signing up so as to ensure you share in our understanding of practice.

  • Prepare yourself and those around you: A Yoga teacher training is a life-changing experience that will affect you in all areas of your life. You can expect to learn yoga asanas, breathing techniques, anatomy, meditation, philosophy and how to incorporate all that  you learn into your lives and perhaps sharing it with others. Yoga is the ultimate mirror to our inner landscape, no matter where you are on your journey, yoga teacher training can be an invaluable resource for growth and change.

What are the requirements to receive the certification?

At the end of the training you will be expected to:

  •  present a personal research project

  • Complete a written exam on each module

  • Complete 5 in-class privates

  • Have attended all the sessions or watched the recordings, and have an established asana practice

What happens after the training?

Once you have completed your training we offer a few ways of continuing with us:

  • Mentorship program

  • Yin intensives

  • Opportunity to audition and be added to our sub-list
